What Makes DreamWear CPAP Masks Unique?

Unlike most of the competition, Philips Respironics DreamWear CPAP masks boast 3 things: a top-of-head hose connection, a hollow mask frame, and an interchangeable mask frame that is compatible with all DreamWear mask types. Let’s break these unique designs down…

Top-of-Head Hose Connection

CPAP users are not elephants, so why aren’t manufacturers addressing the elephant in the room? Countless patients complain about their CPAP hose (or CPAP tubing) getting in the way of a good night’s sleep, thus Philips Respironics opted to use a top-of-head hose connection in its line of DreamWear CPAP masks.

This innovative design has the hose literally connect to the top of the head instead of to your face. Not only will you no longer feel like an elephant, it allows you to have greater freedom of movement. Whether you are a back, stomach, or side sleeper, you can sleep in your preferred sleeping position, because the hose swivels! The only other mask on the market like it is the ResMed AirFit.

Hollow Mask Frames

A hollow mask frame was developed in conjunction with the top-of-head hose connection, so the airflow is pushed directly through the silicone frame to your upper airway. Despite the flexibility in this, there’s no compromising on efficiency. Even the highest air pressure will still make its way safely through the apparatus. In fact, Philips Respironics’ DreamWear CPAP masks are still rated among its CPAP users as more stable and more appealing than their initially prescribed mask. Plus, there’s still one more reason everyone loves this particular mask frame…

Interchangeable Mask Frames

Philips Respironics created a CPAP mask frame that is interchangeable with every available DreamWear CPAP mask type. Say you’re a new patient who’s shopping for a CPAP mask for the first time and doesn’t yet know what works best for them. With traditional masks, you’d need to buy all new CPAP supplies if you discover a different CPAP mask type is right for you. With Philips Respironics’ DreamWear CPAP masks, you keep the mask frame and switch to whatever CPAP mask type you like, saving you time and money.

What Are the Different Types of DreamWear CPAP Masks?

The 3 different types of DreamWear CPAP masks are nasal, nasal pillow, and full face. From  open fields of vision to adjustable headgear, the benefits continue to be astounding, but as we said earlier, not every CPAP mask type is right for you. Here’s what we do know…

Nasal Masks

Every nasal mask comes with a nasal cushion that covers the nose. What’s unique about DreamWear is how it rests just under your nose, providing CPAP therapy without pressing into the nostrils or sensitive nose bridge like many of today’s conventional versions. The under-the-nose solution lets you watch TV, read a book, and completely unwind before bed. Plus, DreamWear nasal cushions provide minimal contact, reducing claustrophobia and preventing red marks, skin irritation, or discomfort in and around your nasal passages.

Who should choose Philips Respironics DreamWear Nasal CPAP Mask?

  • Patients who want a nasal mask with a clear line of sight
  • Patients who want minimal contact or suffer from claustrophobia
  • Patients who want to prevent red marks and skin irritation

Nasal Pillow Masks

The common difference between a nasal mask and a nasal pillow mask is that nasal pillow cushions actually insert into the nostril. Most CPAP users who choose a nasal pillow mask do so because the airflow is reliably entering your nasal passages at all times. While this may sound uncomfortable compared to a nose cushion, Philips Respironics Dreamwear nasal pillows are made of gel. Gel pillows are softer, cooler, and still prevent red marks, skin irritation, or discomfort.

Who should choose Philips Respironics DreamWear Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask?

  • Patients who want direct airflow from tube to nasal passage
  • Patients who want a softer, cooler, gel nasal pillow
  • Patients who want to prevent red marks and skin irritation

Full Face Masks

Although this mask type has an open field of vision and prevents red marks thanks to its full face cushion too, the adjustable headgear is a perk only the DreamWear Full Face CPAP mask has. The headgear features four fabric wraps that can adjust to help you find the most comfortable fit. Better still, you won’t need to readjust every time you take the mask off, because the headgear has magnetic clips for easy release. And don’t worry; your Dreamwear full face mask will be totally secure the next night, so you can be sure of a quality seal all night long.

Who should choose Philips Respironics DreamWear Full Face CPAP Mask?

  • Patients who want their mouth covered; like mouth breathers
  • Patients who want comfortable, adjustable mask headgear*
  • Patients who want to prevent red marks and skin irritation

*If you are switching to a DreamWear Full Face CPAP mask, you will need to change headgear. Both products can be replaced without a prescription.

Does DreamWear Work With ResMed CPAP Machines?

DreamWear frames, DreamWear headgear; there’s a lot that DreamWear has, but DreamWear machines aren't one of them. Luckily, all Philips Respironics DreamWear CPAP masks work with any CPAP machine that uses standard tubing! Yes, DreamWear even works with ResMed CPAP machines, Philips Respironics’ #1 competitor.

Are they crazy??? Or, is it a remarkable strategy that maintains brand loyalty amidst the DreamStation recall? Either way, it’s another reason you will save time and money when you order a DreamWear CPAP mask, and we love it!

How Do You Size a DreamWear CPAP Mask?

What patients don’t love is sizing a CPAP mask. It’s something that’s difficult to get right, and it makes no difference if you’ve had sleep apnea for one year or twenty. Philips Respironics offers a sizing guide as the answer to this particular problem. The sizing guide is a PDF specifically designed with DreamWear mask cushions in mind. You can download a print sample here, cut out the fitting gauge as instructed, and determine your appropriate size based on where the outer edge of your nostrils and tip of your nose contact the paper.

While this solution can work, Aeroflow Sleep prefers something a little more modern than paper cutouts. That’s why we have an exclusive algorithm available that determines which CPAP mask best suits your unique face shape. Any new or existing member of the Aeroflow Sleep family can ask their dedicated Sleep Specialist for the link. Once the link is sent to your smartphone via email or text, all you have to do is answer a brief questionnaire and send us a selfie to find out if DreamWear is your perfect fit.

Your new mask will then be shipped with a fit pack, which Philips Respironics implemented so you can try several different sizes if you’re even a little unsure about your selection. Small, medium, and large cushion sizes are available as well as small frames, medium frames, and large frames. There’s also an additional wide option specific to the DreamWear nasal cushions, accounting for the size of both the cheek and nose, called medium-wide. If you have any questions, consult the clinician or respiratory therapist assigned to you through Aeroflow Sleep.

How Do You Clean a DreamWear CPAP Mask?

Cleaning a DreamWear CPAP mask is pretty straightforward. Remember, the frame is hollow, so it’s basically all one tube once you take apart the headgear, cushion, and swivel. That means you can clean it the exact same way you’d clean short tubing for masks by any other manufacturer. Just wash it with warm, soapy water, rinse, and air dry before use. It’s that easy!

You can also clean the mask in the dishwasher once a week. The Philips Respironics site states, “The non-fabric parts can be washed on the top shelf of the dishwasher and air dried.” FAQs can be found within the mask’s instruction manual if any steps are unclear.

If you’re in a hurry, you can save some time by disinfecting your CPAP mask, hose, and humidifier water chamber without taking everything apart when you use a CPAP cleaner; like the SoClean 3 CPAP Sanitizer. Most kill up to 99% of germs and can keep your CPAP supplies free of harmful pathogens if you forget to clean them every now and then. That said, using this product should not replace daily hand washing, and it is not covered by insurance.

How Much Does a DreamWear CPAP Mask Cost?

The DreamWear CPAP mask may be covered up to 100% through insurance, so it may cost as little as $0 when you order yours from Aeroflow Sleep. This doesn’t just apply to DreamWear; we pride ourselves on getting you the best possible coverage you’re eligible to receive for all CPAP supplies. How do we do this?
