Is The ResMed AirCurve 11 A CPAP Machine or BiPAP Machine?
The ResMed AirCurve 11 is a bilevel positive airway pressure (or BiPAP) machine. This means that it offers two different pressure levels, depending on if you’re inhaling or exhaling. This differs from continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), which offers one fixed pressure setting and tends to have a lower pressure level range.
Designed to mimic your natural breathing pattern, the AirCurve 11 BiPAP machine offers two levels of pressure support: inspiratory positive airway pressure (IPAP) and expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP). Put simply, it delivers a higher pressure when you inhale and a lower pressure on exhalation.
This BiPAP not only helps treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but it also offers a solution for those experiencing difficulty with traditional CPAP therapy. Providers typically recommend BiPAP therapy if you have conditions like obstructive or central sleep apnea, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or hypercapnic respiratory failure.
Ask your healthcare provider if a BiPAP machine, like the new ResMed AirCurve 11, is right for you.
What Is The Difference Between The AirCurve 10 and 11?
Being the latest technology, the AirCurve 11 boasts several new features that distinguish it from its predecessor, the AirCurve 10. First off, the AirCurve 11 offers a more sleek, compact design. In comparison, it is smaller and lighter than the AirCurve 10, which helps give it a clean, modern look. It also features a user-friendly touch screen, making it easier to navigate the machine’s menu settings.
In addition to physical updates, the AirCurve 11, similar to the ResMed AirSense 11, offers users access to digital health solutions like “Personal Therapy Assistant” and “Care Check-In.” We’ll provide more details on these exciting features in the next section!
While the AirCurve 11 offers both a new look and technological upgrades, it still shares some similarities with the AirCurve 10. In fact, both machines use ResMed’s same BiPAP software, and they offer similar features like Expiratory Pressure Relief (EPR) and built-in event detection.
What Features Does This Bilevel Device Offer?
Now, let’s take a closer look at the 5 reasons we think the ResMed AirCurve 11 BiPAP stands out!
1. Easy-Breathe Waveform & AutoSet™ Algorithm
Featuring the Easy-Breathe waveform and ResMed’s renowned AutoSet™ algorithm, the AirCurve 11 VAuto is able to recognize flow limitation, snoring, and other apnea events, and automatically adjust to ensure you receive effective treatment throughout the night.
2. Built-In HumidAir Heated Humidifier
The ResMed HumidAir 11 water chamber is built into the AirCurve 11. It works by adding moisture to the pressurized air that is delivered from your machine to your CPAP mask, helping to prevent common issues like dry mouth and rainout (this occurs when air gets trapped in your tubing and cools, becoming water droplets).
Because the HumidAir heated humidifier is integrated into your machine, you can adjust the humidification settings on your machine to maximize your comfort!
3. ClimateLineAir Heated Tubing
The AirCurve 11 comes with ClimateLineAir heated tubing, which transfers pressurized air from your machine to your mask, while maintaining a constant temperature. This is made possible by the tubing’s built-in temperature sensor, which helps monitor tube temperature.
When used alongside ResMed’s HumidAir humidifier and the Climate Control Auto option on the AirCurve 11 machine, ClimateLineAir tubing automatically adjusts humidity levels to maximize comfort and combat dryness.
The AirCurve 11 is also compatible with ResMed’s SlimLine tubing, if you wish to forgo the heated feature.
4. User-Friendly Touchscreen
Say goodbye to navigation knobs! As we mentioned earlier, the AirCurve 11 also features a user-friendly touch screen, making it easy to adjust your settings as needed.
5. Access To Digital Health Solutions
The AirCurve 11 gives you access to digital health solutions like ResMed’s MyAir app, Personal Therapy Assistant, and Care Check-In. But how does this work? The AirCurve 11 uses integrated cellular and bluetooth to securely transmit your therapy data, so that you can see how you slept the night before on your MyAir app.
Personal Therapy Assistant is a feature within the MyAir app that guides you through set-up and offers more specific information about the AirCurve 11. Additionally, Care Check-In asks you questions about your therapy and provides you with support and troubleshooting tips, setting you up for PAP therapy success!
Even better, your healthcare provider can remotely monitor your progress with AirView to help ensure you are right on track with your sleep therapy!
For more information on each of these features, check out the ResMed AirCurve 11 User Guide.
