Why Should I Replace My PAP Supplies?

There are three main reasons you should replace your PAP supplies, and they each increase in importance. Firstly, like all technology, updates are constantly being made to CPAP equipment too. You could be missing out on innovations that help you sleep well and live better, because your CPAP machine is still in its single-digit iPhone era. (The iPhone 8 was released in 2017, and there was no iPhone 9.)

Secondly, your parts actually deteriorate over time. If you’re an active sleeper, your CPAP tubing may be rubbing against the bed or even rotating at the release point so much, a hole develops. Or, maybe you start experiencing frequent CPAP mask air leaks, because your headgear’s elasticity has loosened; therefore you no longer have a tight seal.

And finally, the most critical reason you should replace PAP supplies is that failing to follow a replacement schedule puts your health in jeopardy. Think about it. You’re supposed to change your toothbrush every few months, because germs can live on it and then enter your body through the mouth. A full face mask has the exact same problem, and worse still, nasal pillows actually insert into the nostrils.

Cleaning your CPAP equipment can help prevent infections. Use warm, soapy water on your supplies daily to keep them in pristine condition, and then let them air dry before your next use. This is only a prevention technique though—sanitizers like SoClean even less so, because they do not perform a deep clean. Obviously, you don’t want to miss out on a good night’s rest or get sick because of your CPAP therapy, so let’s plan a reorder!

How Often Should CPAP Equipment Be Replaced?

Aeroflow Sleep’s recommended replacement schedule is based on insurance guidelines and varies between parts. We’ll start with the most frequent replacements and work our way up:

Every 2 Weeks - 1 Month

  • Nasal Cushions & Nasal Pillows should be replaced every 2 weeks
  • Disposable CPAP Filters should be trashed and replaced every 2 weeks
  • Full-Face Mask Cushions can wait to be replaced up to 1 month

Every 3 Months

  • CPAP Masks, regardless of type, should all be replaced every 3 months
  • CPAP Tubing should also be replaced every 3 months; including heated hoses

Every 6 Months

  • CPAP Headgear & Chinstraps should be replaced every 6 months
  • Humidifier Water Chambers should be replaced every 6 months too, but always replaced the distilled water in the chamber after every use; again, this applies to both standard and heated options
  • Non-Disposable Filters should also be replaced every 6 months

Every 5 Years

  • APAP, BiPAP and CPAP machines should all be replaced every 5 years

What Is The Average CPAP Replacement Cost?

The average CPAP replacement cost depends on if you’re hoping to get your new CPAP parts covered by insurance.

Replacements Through Insurance

Aeroflow Sleep works exclusively with insurance providers and has a dedicated team of Sleep Specialists available just for replacement orders; we call them Resupply. Most private insurance companies are in-network with us; such as Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Humana, and United. We’re also accredited by Medicare and Medicaid and accept secondary insurance options.

Replacements Through Cash

Reasons you may need to pay out-of-pocket for replacement parts include having to meet your deductible before insurance will cover anything or simply being out of the Aeroflow Sleep network. These are both up to your insurance plan, but there are times when a part may need to be replaced before it is scheduled to be as well…

For example, if you’re on vacation and took your CPAP humidifier water chamber out to clean but left it on the hotel bathroom counter, it is likely that insurance will not cover a replacement, because you are at fault. This is especially true if it’s before your replacement time frame.

Another reason could be if something breaks after the warranty has passed. Most CPAP device warranties last no more than 2 years. Warning signs you can look for for breakage include skin irritation and parts that are cracked or discolored.

Can I Return Defective CPAP Supplies?

Yes, returns may still be possible before your next replacement is due. Although it is very rare, Aeroflow Sleep understands that defects are possible. That’s why we have a Returns Policy. In these cases, please call us at 866-616-1687, Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM EST to obtain a return authorization number and leave us your preferred shipping address. Only then will we be able to mail you a postage-paid return label.

We have an additional policy for CPAP masks though, and that’s a good thing! Let’s say you’re a brand new CPAP user, and the doctor said you should try the ResMed AirTouch N20, which is a nasal mask. You get it and decide after a week or two that it isn’t the right mask for you. Maybe you like being able to sleep on your side, so…

Instead, you should try the ResMed AirFit F30i with hollow mask headgear and a tubing connection at the top of your head. You can do that with Aeroflow Sleep’s 30-Day Mask Guarantee! We’ll swap any mask out, regardless of wear and tear, within the first 30 days, absolutely free of charge.

How Aeroflow Sleep Makes PAP Replacements Hassle-Free

In fact, every member of the Aeroflow Sleep family is paired up with their very own representative who you can call or email with questions.

You don’t have to contact us if you don’t want to though; we’ll contact you! We’ll notify you through your preferred method: call, text, or email. Plus, every order Aeroflow Sleep fulfills can be verified from our user-friendly, online patient-portal.
